Due to the enhanced Tier system now in place, and concerns about January restrictions becoming tighter,  we’ve moved to a new date at the end of April, hopefully things will be more settled.  The good news is, that means a few more places are available!

For many years Holland House has hosted a residential retreat based on the books and spirituality of Fr Richard Rohr.

Always popular, this year despite Covid we’re holding our 2020 retreat as planned but working within the safety guidelines set out by Government.

The Warden (Revd Ian Spencer) will be hosting the retreat along with his colleague Urs Mattmann and will include talks, discussion, meditation, worship and free time.

Using Rohrs book “Hope against Darkness: The transforming vision of St Francis in an Age of Anxiety”, and his latest book “The Wisdom Pattern”, we’ll be exploring  what Rohr see’s as the most pressing issue of our age, a  “crises of meaning … so many people have lost heart today feeling both confused and powerless – many have lost any over-arching meaning [to life]”.  Rohr turns to the life and vision of St Francis in order to articulate the problem, and then catch the vision (and practical application) of St Francis’s spirituality in order to redeem it (e.g. the pattern of “order – disorder – reorder”)

If you’re looking at the world and feeling powerless to help heal it, or just feel hopeless – this retreat will put a spring in your step once again.

Arrival from 4pm onwards,  retreat concludes at 11.00am Monday

Following on from Diarmuid O'Murchu's hugely successful debut for Holland House in November, a second on-line retreat is now available.

    In Diarmuid's words:

    Entering Springtime with Creation Spirituality

"Spring 2020 marked the onset of Covid 19. Spring 2021 invites us to review the deeper meaning of this virus and the now indisputable link to our irresponsible interference in nature. While experts invest huge hope in a vaccine, people of faith also need to discern what an earth-centred spirituality would look like, and how it can enhance the well-being of person and planet alike".

The day will run from 10.00am - 3.00pm, and as before will include your questions asked via the chat facility, break-out rooms for small group discussion, a plenary for wider discussion, and a time of meditation to close. Don't miss it!  Here's the link to purchase your place Entering Springtime with Creation Spirituality Minimum price is £25, normal "in-person" price would be £40.

We have registered "Holland House CIO" for an ecorace via digital balloon!   This is a "virtual race" where you can buy one or more balloons and join a race that takes-off from Old Jerusalem on Easter day and lasts a week. You can track you balloon's flight and see where in the world the wind has blown it.  There's some very nice prizes to be won via the organisation that runs the race and Holland House is also offering vouchers for Full Afternoon Tea for three for the Holland House supporter that comes first.  It's a good company that runs these races, and they help raise a lot of money for charities.  Here's two links - one to the company home page, and one to our page so you can buy your balloon(s).  They cost £3.00 each, and once you've purchased them you can decorate them in your own style, and even decide how much helium you want to put in them (all virtual of course).
We're hoping to raise £500,  generate interest in the House, and provide our lovely supporters with some fun at Easter.

If you're looking for a weekend of vital and thought-provoking poetry reading, writing and reflection, together with the wonderful hospitality of Holland House, this weekend retreat is for you. Led by published authors Rosie Miles and Nicola Slee, we will use the Being Alive anthology as the basis for considering how poems can help inspire, nourish, motivate and resource us as we live through challenging times and into new realities.  We may also occasionally delve into the other anthologies in this excellent series: Staying Alive, Being Human, and – most recently – Staying Human.

Do please join us for an inspiring weekend in good company.  To book your place follow this link  Being Alive Poetry weekend

There is much about our everyday experience of life and faith that can leave us uncertain as to whether it is a gift of God, a co-incidence, an accident, or our own wish-fulfilment. In this day we’ll explore some wisdom from scripture, and the Christian tradition that can help us sift our experiences and gain greater confidence in discerning where the Spirit of God is moving in it all.

Nick Helm is a priest in the Hereford Diocese and has long experience as a spiritual director, retreat and quiet day leader and in nurturing spiritual growth. He has written several Grove books in their Spirituality Series including ’Soul Spark’ a short course in prayer and spiritual growth. His website is www.soulspark.online

Yoga for wisdom - Yoga understands wisdom as being more than the murmurings of the mind.  How do we actually experience life, the movement of our bodies, our breath, and our minds?  To come into conscious contact with these three and to understand the relationship between them is to tread the path of Jnana yoga - the yoga of wisdom.

The day will comprise of asana (postures that everyone can access), breath-work and meditation practice, and will be lead by the Warden of Holland House and qualified Hatha Yoga teacher, Revd Ian Spencer.

Ever since the dawn of humanity, gardens have played a critical part in the sustenance and well-being of human life. Not just a resource for growing food, gardens nurture our well-being in ways that go far beyond just physical needs, as the poet Dorothy Frances Gurney  put it  "one is nearer God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth".  Many major faith traditions place significant events in a garden, and spending time in gardens or green-spaces is becoming increasingly valued by health practitioners as at least complimentary to using pharmaceutical products

Holland House is offering an on-line day exploring the spirituality of the garden with two fantastic garden designers, both of who are steeped in both the scientific and spiritual aspects of the garden.

Kristina Fitzsimmons and Patrick Swan are award winning gardeners, and will be leading this special day, facilitated by Revd Ian Spencer - Warden of Holland House.    If gardens, green spaces, or even your window-sill or balcony with a potted plant or two, means something special to you - you'll love this retreat-at-home.

We will meditate on the light of Christ in the world today, using the change of seasons to reflect on how light in the darkness gives us direction, hope and renewal as we head into Autumn and the season of Advent.

personal and spiritual growth. The Enneagram helps us to see ourselves and others more
clearly and compassionately and understand what might prevent us from living as fully as God
    intended".

Holland House is delighted to announce a weekend in person with Diarmuid O'Murchu this Advent

We Await the Coming – Advent as Subversive Memory

Advent recalls the birth of Jesus in our world, while also reminding us God’s future coming at the end time. In this weekend conference, Diarmuid O’Murchu will introduce new insights on the meaning of Advent, following the guideline of Scripture scholar, John. D. Crossan: While we are waiting for God’s intervention, God is actually waiting on our collaboration. The challenges to Christian faith are quite substantial and through input, reflection, and dialogue, will be explored over the weekend".

With increasing numbers logging-on to Diarmuids on-line events for us, the weekend is sure to be a sell-out.
Mark a space in your diary for what will be a great inspirational Advent retreat.
